Q. How much does it cost to register on the MCERTS Personnel Competence Scheme?

Q. How long do I have to be registered on the scheme before I can sit any exams?
A. You need to be registered as a trainee for a minimum of six months.
Q. Do I need to do anything else to achieve certification on the MCERTS Personnel Scheme?
A. You need to provide proof of attendance at an approved training course which covers hazard identification and risk assessment relating to stack emission monitoring. You will also need to submit a personal stack monitoring record in the required format, which is available to download on the website. Q. What levels of qualifications are available on the Scheme?
A. There are three levels of competence – an entry level (trainee), Level 1 (technician) and Level 2 (team Leader) Level 2 personnel are required to pass one or more technical endorsements.
Q. What format do the exams take?
A. For Level 1 and all full Technical Endorsement exams there are two papers, one multi-choice paper comprising 40 questions, and one narrative paper which has four questions requiring written answers. The time allowed for each paper is 50 minutes. Both papers must be taken and passed to achieve certification at the required level. A Level 2 examination takes the form of an interview with two technical examiners – this lasts approximately one hour. Recertification exams are shorter versions of the main technical endorsements and are taken in one session of 50 minutes.
Q. If I fail one part of an examination, do I have to re-sit the whole exam again?
A. No, you only need to re-sit the paper that you failed.
Q. How often are exams held?
A. Exams are held at different centres around the UK and Ireland four times per year. The website has full details of dates and locations.
Q. When do I get the results?
A. Results are published and posted after each quarterly exam board. The dates of these are shown on the website.
Q. When I pass a technical endorsement, do I get a new certificate?
A. A new certificate showing technical endorsements is only issued if you are certified at Level 2. Technical endorsements only become valid once the Level 2 interview has been taken and passed. Please note that you must have a TE1 to make a TE2 valid.
Q. How long does my certificate last?
A. Certification is valid for five years from the date of issue.
